Kenochoric is an umbrella term that describes identities, mainly gender, that is centered around the idea of kenospia (a forlorn atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people, but is now empty and abandoned) among other things. These concepts can include the unknown, eerieness, the uncanny valley, obscurity, nostalgia, emptiness or vastness, liminal spaces, nonhumanity, and things that can evoke any or all of those things.
Some examples of why someone might identify as kenochoric include:
- Having a connection with, or simply being, uncanny, "liminal," creepy, or eerie.
- Having a sense that one's identity is otherworldly, not "from here," or unable to be understood by "normal" people or "humanity."
- Having a connection to obscurity as a concept, feeling as though one's identity is obscured, or having a tie to things that obscure other things, like fog, mist, darkness, etc.
- One's identity feeling empty, lost, melancholic, or hollow.
- Having some kind of disconnect, either with your identity, or feeling like your identity is disconnected from something. This might be genderlessness, gender apathy, feeling like your identity is distorted, etc.
- A connection with the strange, nostalgic, and wistful, or having a general sense of strangeness and/or nostalgia.
- Having an unstable, hard to define/name, or generally off relationship with your identity. It might feel this way for you, or your identity may just feel this way to others.
When something is kenochoric in alignment, its referred to as kenic. The gender-quality of being kenochoric is called kenous/kenoine and when something is kenochoric-in-nature, its abbreviated to KEIN. The kenic galactian alignment is called voidrian.[1][2][3]
Then there are terms like omen, kenore, or chori which refer to a kenochoric person (in the same vain as man or woman). There is also hex, the kenous term for girl/boy. Kenochorim is plural for kenochoric people, alternatively there's omens or choris. Omenhood would be the equivalent to manhood/womanhood. Kenochord or kenogender is the term to describe kenochoric genders.[4][5][6]
Its important to note that kenochoric is its own, separate category of gender, rather than a subcategory of another one such as xenogender. While xenogenders, aesthetigenders, etc. may fall under the kenochoric umbrella since it is its own thing with many variations in experiences. There is no necessary prerequisite or existing label one must meet in order to fall under kenochoric.
Also even if something doesn’t 100% neatly fit under kenochoric's definition, so long as it has kenochoric “traits” a term can be considered as such.[7][8]
Some prefixes/suffixes one might use for kenic terms include: kein, kenic, kenian, koric, korian, chorian, ken, and keno.[9]

History[]
Kenochoric was made by Tumblr user kenochoric (also known as Shawn) on November 18th, 2020.[10][11] Terms such as neagender had been created before this point, but had later been put under this umbrella term. Since this point, a Carrd was made by the creator, with consistent updates for new terms.[1] Furthermore, an archive blog exists on Tumblr to document them quicker.[6]
The flag for kenochoric had been created on the same day as the term. The stripes have the following meanings: Black represents the void, absence, emptiness, and darkness. Dark purple represents disconnect with gender, obscurity and a difficulty to properly define itself. Purple represents vast concepts and places, such as oceans and deep space. Light purple represents liminal spaces, transitional spaces, the "boundary" between what was and what is.
A kenochoric symbol was created by Tumblr user mourningmogaicrew on August 13th, 2021. It was based off the gendervoid symbol because "both identities can involve voids, genderless, and creepy stuff. Also because their flags are both dark and pretty".[12][13]
Etymology[]
The word "kenochoric" stems from the word keno (kenopsia) and choric (chorus, choir, as well as χώρος (khôros; room)).[14]
